Salondra Danekouf asks:
Hey I was wondering what ideas and what creation process it took to create POLYCHROME and STARFISH?
Dan says:
Polychrome was partly inspired by the L.Frank Baum character from the Oz books - Polychrome, the Rainbow's daughter - but mostly she began as a creature that was both angel and ghost - meant to be a contrast to some of the more violent or aggressive characters in the stories. she's kind of evolved as this cool big sister.
Starfish began as a pin-up I did in the early 90's - I wanted to do a 50's style girly pin-up, but my idea was to use an alien babe or a kind of updated mermaid - so I painted this fishgirl relaxing under the waves, with a ray gun strapped to her hip. I really liked the piece and it grew on me more and more - so when I came up with the concept of the Nocturnals, I knew I wanted her in there. Id given her a starfish tatoo and her hair was full of them, so naturally, I called her Starfish.
does that help?
